The ProposalIt was New Years Eve 2010-2011. Eric and Beverly had a
fun night planned with their friend, Rachel Hurwitz, at her apartment
where all would feast on appetizers, champagne, and play games into the
early morning. Unbeknownst to Beverly, Eric had been planning a proposal
for several weeks. After work, he would drive to the jewelers to make
sure the ring was just right with the excellent excuse that he was
heading home late because of the notorious LA traffic. Rachel, one of
Bev's close friends, had been aware of the surprise for several weeks and
was successful in not giving Bev any hints! Eric and Bev spent the day of New Years Eve doing errands for the night's party. Eric did an excellent job concealing his nerves. Before heading to Rachel's, Eric and Bev passed the time by playing Wii WarioWare, where the game prompts the player to do different challenges. Eric got a challenge to place an engagement ring on a finger multiple times and Bev kept joking with Eric that he was really good at placing a ring on fingers. The timing could not have been more appropriate. They had a blast at Rachel's where they played games all night and Rachel made sure Bev looked her best for the pictures to come by helping with hair and makeup. As midnight approached it, it was apparent to Bev that Eric was flustered. Eric had made a homemade pecan pie (a special family recipe) and was frantically trying to cut slices for each guest before the clock struck midnight. Bev was at the TV watching the ball drop gesturing Eric over to join her. The New Year began with Bev turning around to find Eric on one knee, asking Bev if she would marry him with the engagement ring on top of a slice of pie. Bev said YES! They had trouble sleeping that night because they were so excited!
